About

ChrisMe …

Philosophical Misadventures is run by Chris Mathews. I have a MA in Philosophy from the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Contrary to some impressions, I have a deep respect for philosophy. I’m simply willing to admit philosophers can sometimes go awry and thought this project would be of interest to other philosophers. I have lived in Japan since 2004 and teach at Meiji University, Hosei University, and Meiji Gakuin University in Tokyo. My personal site (for more general writing etc.) is www.cjmathews.com.

I am also the author of Modern Satanism: Anatomy of a Radical Subculture [Amazon], a 275-page philosophical investigation of the modern Satanic religion/ideology, engaging issues of ethics, meta-ethics, critical thinking, and philosophy of religion. It is released by Praeger, an imprint of Greenwood Publishing, on 28 February 2009.

See the Satanism page on my personal site for more details.

The Site …

Philosophical Misadventures has been developed using WordPress. Though Wordpress is a blogging tool, I consider it a website or interactive archive and not a blog (which is possibly just my excuse for updating it so infrequently).

And no, I do not model my site’s aesthetics on this.

Hi Chris! Long time no see. Glad to see you’re still abusing philosophy.

Ah, I’d almost forgotten what passes for humour in NZ. I’m getting all nostalgic…
