Already Weak, Air Travel Demand Is Fading. And Business Travel Demand Will Be Soft Whenever It Returns

Noble Horvath

The global decline in air travel will be worse than previously forecast and a new report on corporations’ plans for travel through 2021 shows that the recovery of business travel demand will continue to be sluggish even after one or more Covid-19 vaccines become available, hopefully, in the first half of 2021.

The International Air Transport Association, the airline industry’s global trade group, said Tuesday that global passenger traffic this year will be down a whopping 66% from 2019. Previously IATA had forecast a decline of 63%.

While the revised view is only 3 percentage points worse than IATA’s previous forecast, the enormous numbers of passenger miles

Middle East’s first sovereign green bond sees strong demand

Noble Horvath

Egypt pulled in orders for nearly five times the $750 million size of the Middle East and North Africa’s first sovereign green bond, as it pushes ahead with antipollution and renewable energy projects.

The Arab world’s most populous nation sold the 5-year notes at a yield of 5.25%, well inside an opening target of about 5.75%, after amassing more than $3.7 billion of investor orders. The sale “put Egypt on the map of sustainable financing,” the Finance Ministry said.

Among those attracted were a “new investor base from Europe, the U.S., East Asia and the Middle East, as well as asset managers, pension, investment and insurance funds,” the ministry said in a statement. Such “high-quality,” long-term investors “will reduce price volatility.”

The bond forms part of Egypt’s strategy to lock in new financing sources and broaden the country’s investor base, steps that could in turn help lower its borrowing costs.

Jet2 offers more flights to Turkey as demand for holidays soars | Travel News | Travel

Noble Horvath

Holidaymakers have had to readjust their travel plans this year in the wake of travel corridor changes. However, with that has come a sudden rise in demand for holidays to one location in particular.

Thanks to its place on the travel corridor list, Turkey has seen an influx of British tourists in recent weeks.

Between September 8 and September 15 alone, 30 percent of all package holiday price comparison searches for holidays departing between September 11 and October 31 were for Turkey, according to TravelSupermarket.

Meanwhile, budget airline Jet2 has also seen an increase in demand from holidaymakers looking to jet off.

As a result, the airline has added 60 new flights from the UK to holiday resort destinations including Antalya, Dalaman, Izmir and Bodrum.

The queue outside of the Carling Heights assessment centre on Sept. 23, 2020.

With sustained, overwhelming demand for London’s COVID-19 assessment centres, the group responsible for operating the two locations is trying to find solutions and looking into introducing a telephone appointment booking system.

Since Sept. 12, wait times have consistently climbed above two hours and for several days either one or both of the locations reached capacity well before the end of the day.

The Middlesex-London Health Unit has been reporting wait times and offering up information about the centres, but the locations are actually operated by Thames Valley Family Health Team and London Health Sciences Centre in partnership with the paramedic service and with oversight from Ontario Health, according to local medical officer of health Dr. Chris Mackie.

Boots has suspended bookings for flu jabs amid an ‘unprecedented’ demand for vaccinations this winter.

The high-street chemist is now limiting vaccines for the most vulnerable in society, including the over-65s and people with serious underlying health woes.

NHS England has been actively encouraging people to get their flu jab this year to prevent an influx of influenza and Covid-19 patients overwhelming hospitals.

Normally, anyone can sign up to have their shot by a Boots’ pharmacist but this year the chain has had to prioritise the most at-risk groups to make sure they’re first in line.

Elderly people and those with co-morbidities have the highest chance of needing hospital care if they catch the flu. Therefore, they are they most likely to be a burden on the NHS as it struggles with a second wave of coronavirus.

Target Holiday Hiring To Focus On Digital Demand

Noble Horvath

Target is poised to embark on its annual hiring binge to prep for the upcoming holiday season, but this year the retail giant is doing things a bit differently.

With the coronavirus crisis having upended the shopping habits of tens of millions of consumers and pushed more and more sales online, Target said its seasonal hires will reflect this new reality.

While Target did not offer any specific numbers, the retail giant has reportedly confirmed that this year’s holiday season hiring will likely equal last year’s, when the retailer brought on an additional 130,000 workers, but with a new, $15-an-hour minimum wage.

Target said it plans to double the number of workers at each store handling same-day Drive Up and Order Pickup, with demand for the service having quadrupled. The retailer also said it will train more store employees in handling the new
