MUNCY — What began as a run-down, two-story haven for barn cats is now a rustic new barn venue for country-themed weddings and other special events.

The Cider Mill at Wyndswept Farm, owned by Donna and Lance Armstrong of Muncy, is open for business between May 1 and Oct. 31.

The Armstrongs purchased the 16-acre property on Muncy Exchange Road in late 2006, which includes a century-old farmhouse in addition to two vintage barns.

Thirteen years and countless “do it yourself” projects later, the Cider Mill hosted its first wedding ceremony and reception last October.

The couple initially planned to open a winery on the property, but the growing business of “agri-tainment” convinced them to open the larger renovated barn and surrounding gardens to the public.

With a maximum capacity of 150 guests, the Cider Mill offers both indoor and outdoor spaces.

Handmade farm tables and wooden chairs for dining are included with the rental fee, and straw bale bench seating is provided for outdoor ceremonies.

Affordability and flexibility are key aspects of the Cider Mill, and customers are welcome to choose their own vendors.

The venue hosts only one reception per weekend, so couples have Friday evening through Sunday morning for set-up and clean-up.
