HURON – The National Walleye Tour Presented by Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s is returning to Lake Erie next week to close out its 2020 season.
From Tuesday through Friday, Oct. 13-16, the competitive walleye tournament will have its championship event, with coverage beginning in Huron.
According to organizers, the event will feature some of the best walleye anglers in the country, who will be competing in a “pro-am style” fishing tournament. The National Walleye Tour’s activities will kick off on Tuesday with a virtual meeting online. Procedures will be mailed to the participating anglers.
The participating boats will take off from the Huron River Boating Access Ramp at 41 Cleveland Road in Huron every morning of the competition. Official weigh-ins are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. each day.
Chip Leer, emcee of the National Walleye Tour, said anticipation was peaking with a “buzz in the air” after what had been the longest offseason in the history of the event due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“The fact that we’re even getting to fish our first event — all of us anglers feel really fortunate and the NWT’s doing a good job having social distancing,” said professional fisherman John Hoyer, who won the championship in 2019.
The National Walleye Tour kicked off their 2020 season just a few weeks ago in Oconto, Wisconsin, on Sept. 23, which was then followed up with stops in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and Garrison, North Dakota. (Photo: Submitted)
