A travel agent in Burton is bucking the trend and is set to expand, despite the industry being one of the worst affected during Covid-19 pandemic.
Market Place Travel, in Market Place has been at its current location for two years but is now moving to a bigger venue in the High Street, where the fashion store Start and Tremayne was formerly located.
Despite the travel industry facing major uncertainty and families have found their holiday plans in tatters due to coronavirus and issues with travel abroad, Market Place Travel owners Mark Lomas and Karen Brown had decided to “take the plunge” and are hopeful things will start improving and that their decision to move will pay off.
They believe they have survived as they have a large customer base across the UK, with word of word and recommendations playing a big part in their success.
The decision to move was based on securing more space to allow more customers to be served in a safer way, however finding a new location was something the pair had in mind pre-covid, they have said.
Mr Lomas, 48, who lives in Abbots Bromley, said: “The travel industry has been hit very badly during the covid 19 outbreak and it’s a very brave decision, but thankfully we have still been doing well and the opportunity to move is too good to miss.
“We always wanted to move and felt we have outgrown the place, so when we spotted the lease sign on the new building, we decided between us if we don’t move now we will never move.
“It’s nice to have positive news, all we are seeing around us are places closing so for us not only to survive as a business but look to expand is something we are very proud of.
“It’s bizarre but our business has really taken off and due to the growth we have had to move to a bigger place to allow us to operate in a safe way.
“Our new location will have two floors and we are currently renovating the place and hope to move in at the end of this month.
“We hope to utilise the space and look to recruit more staff members in the future and with us only moving a short space hope to see our regular customers come back and book with us again.”
Many have put their holiday plans abroad on hold due to so many countries being on the Government quarantine list, meaning that families have to isolate for two weeks on their return from their breaks.
