Beijing’s Miyun district, where the renowned Miyun Reservoir is located, kicked off on Saturday the annual King of Fish Culture Festival, which aims to boost local tourism during the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday.
In addition to drawing visitors in with the beautiful lake-side scenery found around the Miyun Reservoir, the northeastern suburb also appeals to thousands of weekend travelers by serving fresh local fish dishes and various other specialties.
According to local authorities, 2020 marks the 60th anniversary of Miyun Reservoir, which allowed fish to become the center of local tourism.
The 2020 festival, running until October 5, will include auctions for large fish, fish tastings and fishing experiences as well as various outdoor markets along the most commonly used travel routes that connect 20 towns throughout Miyun.
Basing on the various needs of travelers, the local tourism authority has also launched a “Meet” event, which will include various recommended tour routes like Meet Food, Meet Ancient Town, Meet the Great Wall, and Meet Intangible Culture for travelers to choose from.
