Organizers of Christkindlmarket have canceled the popular outdoor holiday market and moved it online as the coronavirus pandemic continues to hamper large-scale events and travel.

The event, which typically takes place at Daley Plaza and in Chicago’s Wrigleyville neighborhood, will be virtual this year from Nov. 1 through Dec. 31.

Organizers said on the event’s website that health and public safety developments, travel regulations and other guidelines in the last few months have made it hard to plan its typical in-person event.

“Since the top priority is the well-being of market visitors, vendors, partners, and staff members, the tough decision has been made to cancel the traditional in-person Christkindlmarkets in Chicago, Wrigleyville and Milwaukee for 2020,” the website said.

More to come.
