Bangladesh Cricket team were supposed to leave the city for Sri Lanka on September 27 to take part in a three-match Test series against Sri Lanka from the last week of October.

Chairman of the Cricket Operations Committee of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Akram Khan said on Saturday, ” We were supposed to leave for Sri Lanka tomorrow but we are not being able to do so. Head coach [Russell Domingo], selectors and BCB CEO [Nizamuddin Chowdhury] sat for a meeting and decided to give a three-day break to the players. We will return to training after three days and we hope that we will get a response from the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) in two-three days.”

Akram Khan said, “The BCB still awaits a response from the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) regarding a revised tour guideline.”

Earlier, the BCB announced the 27-member cricketers, who have been chosen for skill camp. They are: Mominul Haque, Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad, Sadman Islam, Liton Das, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Md Mithun, Soumya Sarkar, Taijul Islam, Al-Amin Hossain, Rubel Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, Imrul Kayes, Taskin Ahmed, Nurul Hasan Sohan, Shafiul Islam, Yasir Ali, Nayeem Hasan, Abu Jayed Rahi, Ebadot Hossain, Khaled Ahmed, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Musaddek Hossain, Hasan Mahmud, Mohammad Saifuddin and Saif Hassan.

The preliminary squad took part in the skill camp from last Sunday after a long break with the BCB creating a bio-secure bubble for the players and staff involved in the camp ahead of their potential tour of Sri Lanka.

The cricketers have been given this three-day break and they will spend their time with their families. After that they will return to the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel. Then the players will return to training following a coronavirus test with the BCB re-creating a bio-secure bubble for the camp.

The BCB however hopes to go on the tour at the start of next month.

“If everything remains positive, we hope to go on the tour between the 7th and 10th of the next month. Since their [Lankan] Premier League (LPL) has also been delayed, so they also have time,” added Akram.
