After two cancellations, Tampa is finally back on Elton John’s datebook, bringing his Yellow Brick Road Tour to the Amalie Arena on April 24 — but not until 2022.
Back in 2018, Elton John postponed his farewell tour stop in Tampa by a full year due to a last-minute illness. But his November concert in 2019 was declared one of the best of the year. Soon after that sold-out show, Sir Elton announced a second “farewell” tour. But in April, he postponed his second local farewell concert by another year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
On Wednesday, he announced his return to the stage in North America with newly rescheduled dates for his global Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour. The tour will kick off in North America on Jan. 19, 2022, in New Orleans, making a stop in Jacksonville April 23, the next day in Tampa and then Orlando on April 27 and Miami on April 28.
Taking to social media, Elton John said, “I’ve been enjoying my time at home with the family while the world navigates its way through the COVID pandemic. But, I really miss being on the road and performing for my beloved fans in my Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour. While the scientists are making great progress, we are making big plans for a return to touring that will allow us to ensure the health and safety of everyone.”
He also reassured fans that his health is intact.
“Don’t worry about me,” he posted on Facebook. “I’m using my downtime to keep myself fighting fit and healthier than ever. I’m raring to go!”
Elton John’s November 2019 concert at Amalie Arena was declared one of the best concerts of the year by Tampa Bay Times music critic Jay Cridlin who wrote that “this explosive, energetic and unexpectedly loud show by one of the grandest showmen in rock was deserving of all the hype.”
Soon after his second farewell tour was announced tickets starting at $65.75 sold out to sing along to his legendary catalog including, Bennie and the Jets, Rocket Man, Tiny Dancer and Philadelphia Freedom. At last November’s show, floor seats were being resold for as much as $2,000.
Ticketholders for all postponed performances will receive new event information shortly and all original tickets will be honored at the rescheduled performances.
