A theme park popular with Teessiders has added more dates to its family friendly Christmas festivities this year.

Lightwater Valley, around an hour’s drive from central Teesside, is opening up for winter between November 21 and December 23 this year for a special Alice in Winterland themed event.

Most weekend tickets for the Festive Family Fun event have sold out but the park has added in extra dates on Friday nights to meet demand.

“We’re delighted with the enthusiastic response we have had from people wanting to attend our festive event.

“Understandably Christmas spirit is in high demand this year, so we’ve decided to add these additional dates to ensure even more families can enjoy our Festive Family Fun event in a safe, socially-distanced way,” said Lightwater Valley manager Colin Bowes.

The park will transform itself into an Alice in Winterland theme with a giant lantern display and dazzling illuminated sculptures. Visitors can set out on a magical journey to meet the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts and Alice as she embarks on her amazing adventure.

There’ll be a giant chess board, you can watch the Mad Hatter prepare for his crazy tea party, marvel at the four-metre tall Alice lantern and come face to face with the infamous Queen of Hearts herself.

Visitors of all ages can follow the luminous trail and immerse themselves in a glowing garden with massive mushrooms, illuminated tulips and even a flamingo or two as the evening becomes curiouser and curiouser.

The North Yorkshire theme park, always a popular draw for Teessiders, is famed for its family friendly rides and traditional fairground fun will also be on offer including a spin on the carousel and the Skyrider ride.

New for 2020 will be a Christmas Magic Puppet Show followed by a special appearance of the main man himself and a small chocolatey surprise for the little ones as well as an elf hunt around the park.
