Fall recreation soccer season starts

These strict protocols will also be implemented for the fall season recreational games. The Jersey City Soccer Association is located at 1 Chapel Ave., Jersey City.
Free vaccinations and back-to-school giveaways
Metropolitan Family Health Network will provide free vaccinations every Tuesday to eligible children, ages 12 months to 18 years, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the MFHN, 935 Garfield Ave, Jersey City.
Ensuring that children are up-to-date on their vaccinations is crucial for their health and safety. A major concern is that the rate of children being immunized for vaccine-preventable – and possible life-threatening – diseases is down. Measles and other communicable diseases continue to cause serious injury and death worldwide to those who are not vaccinated. Children, especially those with pre-existing conditions like asthma and diabetes, are at highest risk of death from infections like measles, mumps, rubella, and meningitis, health officials say.
MFHN has the vaccines needed to prevent measles and other diseases. MFHN providers will determine which vaccinations children need depending on their age group and medical records. A parent or guardian must accompany children. Appointments and walk-ins are accepted. Information needed includes photo ID, insurance card, and vaccine records.
More information may be obtained by calling Garrick Hall at 201-478-5844 or Sarita Mehta at 201-478-5825. Due to COVID-19, wearing face coverings, social distancing, hand washing, cleaning, and disinfecting will continue to be routine practices at MFHN.

The legion hopes people will stop by and share a moment of remembrance for POW/MIA’s and their families.
Cantigas Women’s Choir seeking new members
Hudson County’s Cantigas Women’s Choir is seeking women of all vocal ranges to join them virtually for the Fall 2020 semester, whicjh began Tuesday, Sept. 15.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread, Cantigas has made the decision to go virtual this semester as the safety and health of Cantigas’ members, their loved ones and the greater community remain top priority. Online rehearsals allow members the opportunity to work independently to advance their vocal skills while receiving guided direction and enjoying a sense of community.
Cantigas is a 50-person women’s choir that seeks to share the universal language of music. It’s artistic director is Hannah Carr.
With musical selections from countries across the world, each Cantigas season is a cultural experience for its members and their audience. The fall season runs from September to December, culminating in a virtual Winter Concert on Dec. 12. The concert will be pre-recorded and will feature choral and chamber music and spoken reflections on the music’s themes from members.
The choir has, in recent years, sung with inmates at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women in Clinton, performed at Jersey City’s Big Read and Hoboken’s Night Out and caroled at the Alaris Nursing Home.
For membership-specific questions or details about joining Cantigas for the upcoming season, contact Meredith at [email protected] Flexible membership options are available for the 2020-2021 season. All vocal parts are welcome. Sight reading skills are desirable, but not required. The Spring Semester runs from January through May.
