HONG KONG, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) — The following are the latest developments of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Asia-Pacific countries:
NEW DELHI — India’s total tally reached 6,835,655 and the death toll rose to 105,526 as 78,524 new cases were detected and 971 patients died during the past 24 hours, according to the latest data released by the federal health ministry.
There are 902,425 active COVID-19 cases in the country, while 5,827,704 people have been cured and discharged from hospitals.

JAKARTA — Confirmed cases in Indonesia rose by 4,850 within one day to 320,564, with the death toll adding by 108 to 11,580, the health ministry said.
According to the ministry, 3,769 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 244,060.

MANILA — The number of cases in the Philippines rose to 331,869 after the Philippines’ Department of Health (DOH) reported 2,363 new daily infections.
The DOH said the number of recoveries also rose to 274,318 after 697 more patients recovered. Meanwhile, 144 more patients died from the viral disease, bringing the death toll to 6,069.

KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia reported 375 new infections, the health ministry said, bringing the national total to 14,368.
Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press briefing that four of the new cases are imported and 371 are local transmissions, most from the eastern state of Sabah.
Five more deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 146.

SEOUL — South Korea reported 69 more cases of as of midnight Wednesday local time compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 24,422.
Of the new cases, 19 were Seoul residents and 22 were people residing in Gyeonggi province.
Nine were imported from overseas, lifting the combined figure to 3,334.
Two more deaths were confirmed, leaving the death toll at 427.
