All won’t be nearly as merry and bright on the campus of the University of Central Florida this holiday season, as the organizers behind Light Up UCF have announced the event won’t happen this year.

The festival of holiday lights and merriment usually begins Thanksgiving weekend and runs through the new year. This year, fears of the coronavirus spurred the cancellation.

“Due to ongoing public health and safety concerns and uncertainties surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the tough decision has been made to not hold Light Up UCF this year,” said a press release from Addition Financial Arena. “The safety and well-being of our guests, employees, partners and vendors remain our number one priority as we navigate through these tough times.”

During its run, the event was known for drawing thousands of attendees to experience an ice rink, holiday movies, a Ferris wheel and a festive light show.

“Light Up UCF wishes everyone a safe and healthy holiday season this year,” the press release reads.
