A London-based tech startup has secured a five-year deal with two of Europe’s largest shopping centres.

Up.co, the parent company behind phone charging network ChargedUp, has signed a deal with retail complex operator Westfield to provide on-the-go phone charging at Westfield London and Westfield Stratford City.

Established in 2017 by co-founders Hugo Tilmouth and Charlie Baron, Up.co specialises in portable phone charging for retail destinations.

The pair hope that the new Westfield partnership will enable the startup to enhance the post-COVID shopper experience, in collaboration with the firm’s sister hand sanitiser business CleanedUp.

“Up until now, mobile charging options in shopping centres have been limited and static. You’ve either had to lock your phone away and leave it, or wait with it – often impatiently – as you watch the battery life creep towards 25%, in the hope it then lasts until the end of the day.
