A popular Liverpool destination has been included in a list of the top 500 best experiences in the world.
According to leading global travel authority Lonely Planet’s Ultimate Travel List, 34 of the world’s best travel experiences can be found in the UK, making it home to more of the planet’s must-see places than anywhere else.
And Liverpool’s Royal Albert Dock has been included for the first time.
The Royal Albert Dock is a complex of dock buildings and warehouses in the city which was designed by Jesse Hartley and Philip Hardwick. It boasts shops, restaurants, museums, an art gallery and more.

Lonely Planet’s Ultimate Travel List is the second edition of the travel powerhouse’s bestselling coffee table book and offers a definitive wish-list of the 500 most thrilling, memorable and interesting travel experiences in the world – ranked in order of brilliance.
Lonely Planet said: “We’ve all got a list of places that we want to see for ourselves: places friends have enthused about, places we’ve read about, dreamed about. This is our list. And this second edition contains over 200 new entries.”
According to Lonely Planet’s vice president of publishing, Piers Pickard, the experiences and destinations are “a mix of knock-out new openings, sights that have upped their game, or places more relevant to the way we travel now.”

The vice president added: “We also changed the way we calculated the list. For this edition we rewarded extra points to sights that are managing tourism sustainably.”
Almost half of the recommendations are outdoors or wildlife experiences, reflecting the growing desire from travellers to experience the natural world.
The UK offers an eclectic mix of open-air experiences and cultural highlights.
Home to England’s deepest lake and highest peak, the Lake District topped the list of UK experiences ranking at Number 40 and new entry Liverpool’s Royal Albert Dock came in at Number 394, beating iconic cultural attractions including Walt Disney World Orlando and the Dali Museum in Spain.
The Ultimate Travel List praises Liverpool’s top attraction and states: “While many of Britain’s rebooted industrial sites are compelling places, few can rival the splendid Royal Albert Dock Liverpool.”
