A 22-year-old man is facing multiple charges at a Dubai court after reportedly robbing an Arab by luring him into a flat with a fake massage appointment.
The defendant, together with other convicted accomplices, allegedly posted a bogus massage ad online, claiming that services were being offered at an apartment in Jumeirah Lake Towers.
“I went to a flat on the address given in the ad. However, I was held there and got robbed of cash and bank cards at knifepoint. One of the women sat naked in my lap while I was being filmed. They threatened to circulate the snaps against me if I reported the incident to the police,” the complainant recounted during the investigation.
Court records show that the defendant and his group robbed the man of Dh500 in cash and later withdrew Dh15,000 from his bank account. The case dates back to July 7, 2017 and was registered at Al Barsha police station.
The defendant is now standing trial at the Dubai Court of First Instance on charges of robbery, unlawful confinement, issuing criminal threats, sexual assault, invasion of others’ privacy, and unlawful use of others’ bank cards.
A police officer told the investigator that the accused had been arrested and detained over similar incidents. When the complainant filed the case, he was asked whether it was the same gang that robbed him.
“The complainant recognised them,” the cop said.
The defendant remains in detention while his trial has been postponed to October 29.
