PETOSKEY — If you’ve been on the outside looking in for Petoskey football games this fall, then things are about to get a bit better for you.

General admission tickets will now be on sale for Petoskey varsity football games, beginning with this Friday’s matchup against Cadillac at Northmen Stadium.

Only a limited number of tickets were handed out to players to distribute for the season-opener against Gaylord in mid-September, though the latest moves made by the state and the Michigan High School Athletic Association, which opened outdoor events to up to 1,000 people, will bring fans in from outside the fence.

The total count for the game will still take into account the players, coaches, officials and stadium personnel, with players still receiving an allotment to distribute to parents and other family members.

Petoskey Athletic Director Joel Dohm believes there will be around 700 tickets left for the general public, which will be sold at a first-come, first-serve basis on Friday night. Tickets will not be sold in advance.

“They will not start being sold until after the freshman football game when we’ve cleared the stadium,” said Dohm. “We’re playing that (freshman game) at 4 p.m., so we should be done before 6 p.m. and we plan on opening the gates (for varsity) around 6:10 p.m. or so.”

Tickets are $5.00 and when the total amount left to sell has been met, no other tickets will be sold. All other spectators will then have to watch from outside the fence.

All spectators who enter Northmen Stadium must follow the health department guidelines of wearing a mask at all times, practice social distancing and all children must stay with their parents within the stadium.

A limited concession may be available as well.

For fans who can’t attend Friday’s game, it will be available to watch online throughout the MHSAA and NFHS Network Pixellot system, as well as over the radio on WMBN 1340-AM.

Along with the Friday, Oct. 9 game against Cadillac, Petoskey will also welcome Traverse City West to Northmen Stadium on Friday, Oct. 23.
