POEA warns public against travel agencies illegally recruiting overseas workers

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) warned on Tuesday overseas job applicants to avoid travel agencies that are illegally recruiting Filipino workers for overseas employment.

The POEA issued the warning after receiving reports on recruitment schemes for overseas work with lucrative salaries in factories, farms, or hotels, and multi-year visas to countries such as South Korea and New Zealand.

The POEA named the travel agencies as Sam Stay Tours which was identified as not an accredited travel agency of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, MGR Travel, Ailar Travel Agency, Agencia de Marisian, and other similar travel agencies.

“As part of their modus, these travel agencies present dubious certificates of registration from the Department of Trade and Industry, which even if valid is not licensed by the POEA to engage in recruitment activities,” the POEA said.

The Philippine Overseas Labor Office in New Zealand and South Korea also clarified that it does not accredit any Philippine-based travel agency to recruit Filipino overseas workers.

The POEA urged the public to “disregard unsolicited job offers made by travel agencies, consultancy firms, and training centers” and enjoined them to report dubious travel agencies or recruitment firms to the POEA Operations and Surveillance Division by sending an email to [email protected]
