SANTA CRUZ — A second Santa Cruz County corrections officer in nearly a month’s time has been arrested and accused of having illegal relations with an inmate.

Jenna Baldwin, 35, was taken into custody around 6:30 p.m. Sunday and booked into the same facility where she is alleged to have committed her crimes. Baldwin, who has since been released from custody, was initially held on suspicion of sexual activity with an inmate, assault by a public officer and bringing contraband into a detention facility.

Based on a tip related to an improper relationship with a Santa Cruz County Main Jail inmate, the department began investigating Baldwin in May, according to department spokeswoman Ashley Keehn.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office hired Baldwin in 2008. She no longer works for the agency, according to an agency release.
