An online drive that raises money for Catholic schools, churches and charities in Terrebonne and Lafourche is scheduled for Dec. 1.
Houma-Thibodaux one of 40 dioceses throughout the country that will participate in the sixth annual #iGiveCatholic fundraiser, a national event sponsored locally by the Catholic Foundation of South Louisiana.
Most donations are accepted on #GivingTuesday, the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving. However, those who want to give in advance can do so starting Nov. 16 at houma-thibodaux.igivecatholic.org.
The local diocese raised $461,368 during last year’s fundraiser, more than triple its $150,000 goal, church officials said. More than 1,600 people, businesses and groups donated. The figure was up just under $100,000 from last year’s $375,000.
The diocese has not announced its goal for this year.
“Over the past several years, our Catholic community has embraced our church parishes and Catholic schools through #iGiveCatholic and has helped to raise over $1 million for our local parishes and schools,” Houma-Thibodaux Bishop Shelton Fabre said in a news release Tuesday. “Your generosity has helped us to replaces roofs, build fences to keep our children safe at school, advance technology in the classrooms and even build an adoration chapel.”
The diocese’s #iGiveCatholic page lists more than three dozen participating church parishes, schools and ministries. Each page is personalized with a mission, vision and individualized donate button.
The site includes a leaderboard updating total donations in real time, affording parishioners, alumni, parents and supporters the opportunity to track how their favorite parish, school or ministry is doing on #GivingTuesday,
